1. PASS THE MIC
We are not all affected by climate change equally. And sadly, those most affected are often less likely to be heard. Use your voice or platform to share the stories of those who are being hit hardest.
Here are a group of activists you can follow on social media who are rallying for climate justice. And Practical Action share stories of those in the front line of the climate crisis. Let’s amplify the voices of those who have already felt the effects of climate change to ensure their stories cut through.
2. JOIN OR DONATE TO CLIMATE ACTION GROUPS
Right now, people all over are joining forces to create tangible solutions to local climate impacts. Look out for groups with a focus on intersectional environmentalism, who centre climate movement around those most affected.
3. DEMAND GOODER
Give the government the nudge we need. Make yourself heard by writing to your MP, having conversations in your community, and signing petitions. Start by using the feature on our main page to tell your MP you want a future without food waste.
4. WASTE NOT, WANT NOT
Food waste makes up a huge slice of our carbon footprint. But the good news is, 60% of food waste is avoidable. Reduce household food waste by freezing your leftovers, getting creative in the kitchen, and always ask for a doggy bag when out and about. We’re all food-waste-fighters here, so you know the drill!
5. PLATE UP PLANT BASED
Reducing your meat intake is also a great way to reduce your ‘foodprint’. So, serve up more veg, and even gooder, source them seasonally and locally to reduce food miles and energy.
6. FUND FOR YOUR FUTURE
Most of us don’t think of ourselves as investors, but if you have a bank account and a pension, you are! Use your bank and pension to power climate solutions and shape a more sustainable future for all. For more info on the hows and whys, read our blog here.
7. PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS
Before you buy, question whether you really need the item in the first place. Do you have something in your house, fridge or wardrobe which fits the bill already? If you’re still looking to buy something, use you power as a consumer to choose sustainable and ethical brands, a B corp is a great indicator of this.
8. TREAD LIGHTLY
Put simply, your carbon emissions will skyrocket if you fly regularly. So, bike, train, or carpool wherever you can. How good have stay-cays been this year?
9. SHARE INFORMATION
To inspire others to become greener, COP26 are calling for activists like yourself to share information on how to act for your planet. Wondering where to start? Share this article via social, email or by word of mouth to encourage change.
